First three flights today. Conditions were just perfect - not! Constant 50 mph gusting to 60+, very bumpy and a terrible way to assess a new model!
First two flights were without ballast so that I could find the CG. Despite flying dry in dreadful conditions the Viking was very impressive. Its pace reminded me of the venerable Masterpiece but it seemed to be much better in the turns.
I used Vaclav's set up, which is pretty different to my usual in terms of no flaps acting as ailerons and much more flap than aileron mixed with the elevator. The outcome was actually the same in terms or responsiveness to what I like - it was just achieved in a different way. Once I get some proper air time in sensible conditions I'll compare it with my usual set-up to see if either method of achieving the same thing produces less drag.
Full ballast was in for the third flight but by this time it was so windy my metal transmitter case actually blew away! Anyway, the Viking flew ok. At one point the air smoothed a little as a thermal passed through and I had some real fun but most of the time the air was just horrible.
More soon and some photos.
Off to La Muela on Tuesday, reckon I'll take the Viking along with a couple of Brios
