F3B - Upton Upon Severn by Mark Passingham

We finally managed to get to Fish Meadow at Upton on Sunday 19 October for the league reserve date after previous attempts failed due to problems caused by flooding earlier in the year. Thanks to Nick Neve and the MSA for making us welcome. We managed to fly a full 6 scoring competions for 2008 with only the first competition being called off due to excessive snowfall making travelling inadvisable.

The forecast for Sunday was not good but the weather was not too bad on the day. It was mostly cloudy and the windspeed increased steadily during the day making the conditions challenging at times. Duration was tricky with a few people missing out on landing points due to the wind. Distance required a lot of ballast and several times models were visibly struggling on the upwind legs.

A few lines were broken during the day due to the strength of the wind and because of this Ken Woodhouse was unlucky to get a zero in his first Speed. He broke two lines on the launch and then on the third attempt ran out of slot time with his Radical just 5 metres short of the finishing line.

Steve Haley won the day and also won the league by virtue of winning all six comps. He didn't have it all his own way in the final comp as he got caught out by the tricky conditions in Distance and dropped a few points. Ken Woodhouse won the B League for 2008 and was presented with the Nigel Mead trophy.
