UK F3B League 6 - Wetlands by Mark Passingham
F3B League 6 was held at Wetlands on Sunday 28 September after a late change of venue. There were problems with the field at Fish Meadow, Upton upon Severn following the flooding earlier in the year which made the move unavoidable. The League reserve date of Sunday 19 October 2008 will now be held at fish Meadow instead.
Sunday morning dawned foggy and wet with low clouds and did not look promising for the chances of a competition. However, the course was set up while we waited for the rain to stop and once the weather cleared a bit a few test launches were made to check out the cloudbase. The first few launches disppeared into the clouds at the top of the ping but the models were landed safely after a few low passes over the field. The cloud gradually lifted and the competition got underway without any problems. The weather improved all day and we ended up flying in blue skies and sunshine.
There were a couple of new models on display; Steve Haley flew his Precious for the first time and Mark Passingham campaigned his new Ceres. Both models looked good. Other models flown included Radical, Ascot, Skorpion, Crossfire, Europhia, Estrella, Tragi, Supersonic and a Pike Brio.
After an extremely enjoyable day's flying the A League was won by Steve Haley and the B League was won by Ken Woodhouse. Detailed results will be out in a day or two.
It looks very much as though this may be the last season where the existing A&B League system will be flown. If the changes go through there will no longer be a requirement to qualify for the A League by spending a year flying in and winning the B League. Thanks to BarkWeb for the webspace.
