UK F3F 2008 League Reserve and Final Results
All's well that ends well, and it's fantastic for me be UK F3F Champion for the fourth time, but as soon as I saw the final league competition was going to be on the back of the Wrecker my heart sank! Time and time again this slope has handed out nothing but crap air my way - it downright hates me! And the final league event of the year started the same way; after the first two rounds I was in last place with a 59 and a 57 against Simon Thornton's two 48s!
Being pretty hacked off at this stage and trying to prompt a change of luck I switched to the Ceres and it seems the back of the Wrecker loves the Ceres slightly more than it hates me. Over the next 8 rounds I clawed a bit back each round until creeping into the lead right at the death. Rule one in F3F is never give up.
Although the air was all over the place it was clear that Simon Thornton (yep, old golden balls himself is back) has not suffered much from his lay off and that Mark Redsell has now turned the corner from being an awesome pilot to an awesome pilot who's got that little something extra that grinds out results.
There was a fair selection of models on display, it's just a shame the conditions were such that it was pretty much impossible to form a worthwhile opinion about any of them. The Vikos from T9 certainly didn't do its sales any harm. The Skorpion was slippery quick as ever. The Race M cross tail was on rails. Thornton made the V tail RaceM Ultimate sing. And the Viking was fast and balanced - I still adore that plane!
Unfortunately I'm working 7 days a week at the moment so I haven't pulled together the head to head review of the Ascot and the Ceres, but I will.
Finally, thanks to Andy Ellison for all the work he's done to run the league and for going the extra mile in drumming up some funding for the UK team in Slovakia. Top man, thanks Andy.
Once again, thanks to BarkWeb for the webspace.
